Disturbance in an alpine environment - a plant`s eye view

Act Let this plant grow and look, what happens ...

The plant on the left is an alpine aster (Aster alpinus, Asteraceae). It can grow and regenerate in alpine habitats, but in some years it may experience one of four different disturbances.

You can let the plant grow starting from the first rosette leaves in spring. If something has happened to the plant and a question mark appears, stop for a moment and try to find out what it is and what the likely consequences for the plant are before proceeding. There are five possible fates that the plant may experience, but it may take many years (runs) for rare ones to occur.

How frequent are the different disturbances and how are they distributed over consecutive growth periods (years)?

Can you think of other disturbances that the plant may be exposed to in its alpine environment?
