The vegetation of alpine pastures is not homogenous. The "natural" abiotic factors like altitude, aspect and soil depth, the heavy impact of the animals, and the work of alpine farmers create a heterogeneous environment were various communities can be found. In particular, the considerable heterogeneity in soil chemical conditions created by many centuries of summer pasturing is reflected in the range of plant communities. |
Zoom in and see, which communities are created or affected by human livestock management. |
