What are the causes for the altitudinal vegetation zonation?
What is special in the alpine envrionment?
The distinct abiotic (and biotic) conditions of the alpine environment allow only specialized
plants and animals to survive. Yet, those organisms who are adapted cope very well with these conditions and some
are even not able to survive under more 'moderate' conditions at lower altitudes.
