Soils having a high salinity close to the
surface, resulting in electric conductivities above 15
mS cm-1. Salinity results from the underlying rocks or
from the atmosphere due to dust or particles washed out
by rain. Solonchaks are typical soils of semiarid to arid
mountains. The salts are carried into the soil profile
by infiltration of rain or groundwater flow.
