- In winter, the fish in Lago di Cadagno are endangered more strongly than
in summer. Why?
Answer: The ice and snow layer reflect and absorb
most of the sunlight, therefore algae produce less oxygen.
The purple bacteria layer gets thinner and less sulphide is detoxified.
The sulphide layer widens and therefore the oxygen containing layer thins out.

- How can the different colours of the Jöri lakes be explained?
Answer: The lakes are influenced by the Jöri glacier to varying
degrees. Those lakes, who are influenced more by glacial meltwater show the typical milky appearance.
Due to iron rich sediments, some lakes appear quite dark.

- On particular rainy days with air temperatures about 3°C, the calculated
vs. measured heat-flux exhibit large deviations. Have you an idea?
Answer: At low temperatures rain may partially falls as sleet. The
specific latent heat of fusion of ice at 0 °C is 334 KJ·kg-1. To melt the snow in the sleet needs
therefore additional energy not considered in the model.
