Number of species per dm² growing within (black bars) and outside (white bars) cushions of Bolax gummifera at two altitudes at Cerro Diente, Patagonian Andes, Chile (after Cavieres et al., 2002)

At both elevations there were significantly more species growing within than outside cushions, and the proportion of the local flora growing within cushions increased with elevation.
