P redistribution within a subalpine pasture in Ticino, Switzerland (after
Jewell et al., 2002)
In both years, about half of the pasture had a P balance close to zero.
Most of this area was on the upper slopes, which had scarcely been used by the animals.
In 1998 one quarter of the pasture had a net loss of P of > 0.5 kg ha-1 a-1 and
around 4% had a loss of P > 5 kg ha-1 a-1. Only about 2% of the pasture received 45% of the total P load.
In 1996 the pasture was divided into two paddocks (red line). There still was a clearly unbalanced P
redistribution, but P removal and local load were not as pronounced as in 1998.
